Phil of Adventure Kayaking shows some unique skills and attire!

On a recent sea kayaking training course Phil Doddridge, owner of Adventure Kayaking, demonstrated some unique Greenland kayak rolling and supporting techniques. Being a keen sea kayaker Phil has an interest in the origins of this activity and exploring the amazing acrobatic feats developed by the Inuit peoples of the Artic regions (Eskimos). Dressed in a traditional style paddling top known as a tuilik and a striking black Tahe Marine Greenland kayak Phil demonstrated many traditional ways to recover from a capsize and gave instruction on eskimo rolling in general. You can learn to eskimo roll too and other advanced skills from Phil in our private instructional sessions. See index on our website.

Adventure Kayaking spent a morning with Mike Bossley (WDCS)

Phil, Tom and Alex(taking photo) spent the morning with Mike Bossley of the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society on his research vessel catching up on the latest news on the Port River Dolphins. It was an ideal morning and we found plenty of dolphins including Wave and Tallula. These two dolphins were badly injured recently and it was great to see they are making a full recovery. Mike now believes that the bad burns they experienced was the result of sunburn due to a stranding incident; dolphins skin is very sensitive to UV light. There is no evidence of this but this seems the most likely cause. It was great to see these two beautiful dolphins getting back to their old selves as the surfed the wake of the research boat.

Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary at its best!

Autumn is a great time for kayaking in Adelaide. There is still plenty of sunshine around, the water is still warm and the dolphins are very active!

In recent kayak tours of the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary we have been treated to some of the best dolphin interactions of the season. The Dolphin Sanctuary is such a special place and kayaks are the best way to explore this area and experience the dolphins.

These images show the kayakers with the mother and baby dolphins called Wave and Tallula. Tallula is actually a male. These dolphins were very badly injured recently the cause still unknown. Large burns appeared on their backs and it was feared they would both die. They are both now well on the way to recovery and seemed pleased to swim around the kayaks along with several others. A great morning on the water!

Adventure Kayaking trying new Tahe Marine kayaks

Phil from Adventure Kayaking SA travelled to Sydney to meet up with Mark and Rob from Expedition Kayaks and give the new range of high quality composite kayaks (fibre glass) for Tahe Marine, Europe's largest manufacturer, a thorough work out. On a windy day we hit the water at LA Perouse to put these fantastic kayaks through their paces. The Greenland style kayaks were a real winner...beautifully made and sensational to paddle. The touring kayaks handled the bumpy conditions with ease. Adventure Kayaking is branching out and will soon be selling high quality paddling equipment.
